Site History
This area of inner Sydney was originally Gadigal and Wangal country, characterised by grasslands, wetlands, and waterways that the local Aboriginal peoples referred to as Bullanaming.
Originally Gadigal and Wangal country, the land was a mosaic of grasslands, wetlands and waterways that the local Aboriginal peoples referred to as Bullanaming.
By the 1870s, the area had transformed into Sydney's brick-making heartland, with the Bedford Brick Works producing the clay that constructed much of suburban Sydney for nearly a century. The four heritage-listed chimney stacks still standing in Sydney Park today serve as a lasting reminder of that era.
After the brickworks closed in 1970, the site was remediated, landscaped, and revegetated, leading to the creation of Sydney Park.
Sydney Park officially opened in 1991 — reclaimed from heavy industry into one of the inner city's most beloved green spaces.
Sydney Park Village followed, developed in six stages starting in 1998. Built on the edge of this transformed landscape, it has since become one of inner Sydney's most stable and sought-after residential communities — a place with genuine history beneath its feet and a strong sense of community above ground.
Local Area
Sydney Park Village is located in one of the most connected inner-west neighbourhoods of Sydney. Directly across the road is a park that features wetlands, bike trails, a skate park, playgrounds, and offers sweeping views of the city and Botany Bay — a true daily amenity right at your doorstep.
Erskineville and Newtown are just a short walk away, providing easy access to King Street's independent cafés, restaurants, and boutiques. St. Peter's train station is a 12-minute walk, and direct buses to the CBD stop right in front of the property. The city centre is only a seven-minute train ride away.
